Cambodia won 698 medals from competition of the Hope International Open Taekwondo Championship 2026

The Cambodia WT taekwondo team won a total of 698 medals from competition of the Hope International Open Taekwondo Championship 2026, the most among the six participating countries. In fact, Cambodia won 228 gold medals, 195 silver medals, and 275 bronze medals.

Myanmar came in second with 15 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 18 bronze medals, for a total of 41 medals. Vietnam came in third with 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal, for a total of 3 medals. Singapore came in fourth with 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal, for a total of 2 medals. Malaysia won 1 gold medal. South Korea won 2 bronze medals.

After the successful conclusion of the event of the Hope International Open Taekwondo Championship 2026 on Sunday morning, January 11, 2026, Mr. Choi Yongsok, the Cambodia national taekwondo WT coach, said that the competition could grow even bigger in the coming years.

The South Korean coach stated that "Next year, there may be more participations from other clubs from around the world. This year, we only have six countries, but next year there may be more countries, not just from Asia, but from Europe and Africa as well."

While in 2026, the organization was carried out by the Cambodia Taekwondo Federation, Taekwondo Academy and Kukkiwon Cambodia, in the coming year, Mr. Choi Yongsok revealed that, he will request cooperation from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia to expand its potential even further.

The Hope International Open Taekwondo Championships 2026 will be held from January 9 to 11, 2026 at the Buyong Hall of the National Olympic Stadium, with a total of 560 athletes from 42 clubs. Including 4 Myanmar clubs, 1 Singapore club, 1 Vietnam club, 1 Malaysia club, 1 South Korea club and 34 Cambodia clubs competing in a total of 206 disciplines.

This international event focuses on grassroots youth which starting from 5 years old to over 18 years old, which is a good opportunity for Cambodia to hone and strengthen its resources towards hosting the Asian Youth Games in 2031 and many other special events.
