H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, said that the Royal Government has carefully considered the decision to send athletes to the 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand.

H.E. Dr. the Deputy Prime Minister said that, the SEA Games are an ASEAN sporting event and overseen by the ASEAN Sports Commission. Therefore, if we do not go, it will affect ASEAN’s honor. Thailand has no right to decide whether let to participate or not to participate. We know that this decision is difficult, but we also understand that the host country has an obligation to protect the safety of its sports delegation.

Therefore, if Cambodian athletes are attacked, it will be a disgrace to the host country. But at the same time, we are also paying attention. Each team should appoint a person in charge of security. Who wants to go out, please have a contact number and if want to go out, please go out in group. Therefore, please have security officers and coordinators with phones and names, and register their daily attendance. We have weighed up before making a decision for the national interest and national honor. We will take strict measures to protect safety."
